September
September was a very busy month in the Infant classroom. We welcomed our new Junior Infant pupils and set up our groups and routine.
We did lots of rhyme in English and focused on nursery rhymes and played lots of rhyming games. We learned lots about families and talked about ourselves and our families. We brought in photos of ourselves as babies and looked at how much we have changed over the years. We made handprints and self-portraits and there was lots of play!

We introduced Buddy and Cara who will spend the weekend with a different pupil each week.

October
Junior Infants kick-started the month of October by planting a native Scots Pine sapling to celebrate National Tree Day. Ms. Geoghegan received the sapling from the Tree Council of Ireland, to encourage pupils in primary schools to engage with nature and support biodiversity. It now sits beside the Oak tree the Senior Infants planted last year. We’ll soon have our own forest!!

We voted in the student council elections and had a talk on Heritage week, where we learned how to make prints from leaves and plants, which complemented our Autumn art work.

We attended a maths webinar for Maths week, and we practised our 2D shapes using play-doh.

Finally, we prepared for Halloween by making some hanging bats, played some fun Halloween games, dressed up for Halloween and made some yummy chocolate apples. Ms Treacy was a great help.
